R. Kelly flies: and talks about women, money, power and religion
Ebony, Sept, 1998 by Kevin Chappell
Meanwhile, there remains the lingering question: Will R. Kelly ever release an album entirely of gospel music? "Sometimes I believe I will. Sometimes I believe I will end up singing gospel," he says. "But I can't sing gospel unless I'm all the way with the Lord. It's a school thing. It's like when you start off with school, you can't start off graduating. You can't start off knowing. There are questions that have to be asked, and there are questions that have to be answered."
What questions?
The question, he says, of how to best be true to himself, "That is my desire to one day be with God and the whole thing. But it's all about being real with myself," he says. "I believe eventually people are going to hear a gospel album. But I believe it's going to be real. I believe once it does happen for me in that area of my life, then I'm going to be completely that. I don't want to be in/out, in/out, in/out. That's my wish."
