1995 Ad

Ebony, Nov, 1994

As in previous years, new car buyers in 1995 will again be looking for vehicles that fit their specific requirements for safety, convenience, practicality, economy, appearance and --perhaps even more important--the size of their wallets. With this in mind, automobile manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, are offering a wide range of innovative 1995 model cars aimed at satisfying the most individualistic of car buyer's taste.

While most new models, except for some minor contour refinements, retain the hightech, uncluttered silhouettes from the previous model year, they continue the trend of under-the-hood improvements, enhanced safety and improved engine performance. Many improvements, particularly in the areas of safety and security, that were once available only as added-expense options are now offered as standard equipment in many 1995 cars. They include dual air bags, anti-lock brakes, side-impact door beams, remote keyless entry, height-adjustable seat belts, all-speed traction control, child-proof door locks, integrated child safety seats and keyless remote alarm systems. But even luxury features, such as heated seats, tilt steering wheels, leather interiors, sunroofs and home-quality sound systems are offered as standards on some cars.

For instance, Chrysler's newly introduced luxury LHS offers such a generous list of standard features that a mobile phone and a CD player are the only available optional features. In response to buyer requests, additional standard features have been added to both the LHS and the New Yorker for the 1995 model year, such as a power trunk pull-down and improved headlamps for a more direct line of illumination. Other standards include anti-lock brakes, power windows and power door locks, solar control and electronic speed control.

In keeping with the trend, Cadillac's driverside air bags introduced as optional equipment in 1974, have not only become standard equipment in current Cadillac models but include passenger-side air bags as well throughout the entire 1994 and 1995 model lines. Called the Airbank System, the air bags provide crash protection for three front-seat occupants.

Oldsmobile has a lot of hopes, research and technical know-how riding on its new full-size performance sedan Aurora, the division's bid for the personal luxury market. Standards on the stylish debut model include a 250-horsepower V-8, power steering, power brakes, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, real walnut trim and leather interior.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet is reintroducing a lineup of improved models, including Cavalier, Lumina, Monte Carlo, Caprice, Impala SS, Camaro, Corsica, Baretta and its legendary Corvette sports car. The totally redesigned Cavalier will be available in three body styles: four-door sedan, two-door coupe and sporty convertible.

Pontiac unveils an all-new, performance oriented Sunfire to lead its 1995 model lineup, which lists among its improvements a more powerful 205 horsepower V6 engine for Bonneville; a supercharged 3800 V6 engine for Bonneville SE; a quieter 2.3 liter Quad DOHC engine with balanced shafts for Grand Am; and traction control with automatic or manual transmission on V8 Firebirds.

Ford enters the 1995 model year with the all-new Conture, a group of front-wheel, five-passenger, four-door midsize sedans available with two new engines and two new transmissions, enhanced saftey and secutity systmes and superior vehicle dynamics: steering, braking, ride and handling. The ever-popular Thunderbird celebrates its 40th anniversary as the longest-running name-plate of any Fordbrand product. For 1995, it will continue to be available in two distinctive series, the Thunderbird LX, and the high-performance Thunderbird SC. Colors added to the Thunderbird palette for 1995 include Rose Mist Clearcoat Metallic, Chameleon Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Silver Frost Clercoat Mctallic and Silver Blue Mist Clearcoast Metallic.

Responding to the growing popularity of sport utility vehicles, minivans, trucks and wagons, virtually all automakers, both foreign and domestic, are entering this expanding market with new or revamped vehicles. They include Jeep's Wrangler Rio Grande, Chevrolet's Blazer, GMC's Jimmy, Plymouth's Voyager, Ford's bronco, Dodge's Dakota, Toyota's 4Runner, Oldsmobile's Bravada, Pontiac's Tran Sport, Nissan's Pathfinder, Honda's Accord Ex Wagon and many more.

With many car manufacturers offering generous incentives, such as big packages of no extra cost standard items, extended warrantees and liberal payment plans, 1995 model car buyers should have no difficulty finding the car that is exactly right for them.

Chrysler LHS with its distinctive cab-forward design for roominess, combines sporty aero-dynamic styling and luxury with responsive handling and performance. The five-passenger automobile is powered by a 214-horsepower 3.5 liter V6 that outperforms many V8s. Its standard package includes dual air bags, anti-lock brakes and vehicle theft alarm.

Lincoln Town Car, a full-size rear-drive luxury sedan, boasts new seat designs with improved front seat roominess. New outside mirrors are larger and repositioned forward for greater visibility. Added standards include remote climate and audio controls. A power steering control switch on the dashboard allows the driver to select between heavy, medium and light steering efforts.
