Pregnant chic: fashion advice for mothers-to-be

Ebony, Nov, 1998

In addition to your wardrobe, don't forget about your hair and makeup. "When my body started going through these changes, I didn't really feel like my old self," explains Goldstein. "I had my hair and nails done to feel more like me." Take time out for some well-deserve pampering -- a massage, a manicure -- to lift your spirits. Even little splurges, such as a scented bubble bath or a new makeup, can work wonders. "Even when I wasn't feeling so hot, it helped to put on some lipstick," says Robinson-Vinson.

FIVE ITEMS NO MOTHER-TO-BE SHOULD BE WITHOUT

1. A-LINE DRESS -- A flattering, comfortable cut that is office-appropriate.

2. ELASTIC-WAIST SKIRT -- Easily accommodates your expanding belly.

3. TUNIC TOP -- Roomy, can be worn throughout pregnancy and beyond.

4. LEGGINGS -- Depending on the fabric, cut and color, these can be dressed up or down. Avoid leggings with tapered ankles, which may be difficult to put on as your pregnancy progresses.

5. SLIP-ON SHOES -- When you can't see your feet, you don't want to be bothered with buckles and laces.
