New directions at Howard - Howard University celebrates 125th anniversary - includes related article on graduate Robert Engram
Ebony, May, 1992
As an AT&T Campus Angel, Engram acts as a liaison between AT&T and Howard, lending his expertise to help the school complete proposals for grants and equipment. These proposals are then directed to the AT&T Foundation which has donated more than $5 million in monies and equipment to the University over the last five years.
Engram also hasn't forgotten the importance of AT&T's visiting professor program. He interviews visiting professor candidates as a way to "keep up with that tradition" which helped him get started on his career.
Engram is committed to ensuring AT&T continues to do its best to improve the quality of education at historically black colleges and universities. He also wants graduates from schools like Howard University to have equal opportunities for AT&T jobs.
"The company is clearly one of the top companies in the nation" in terms of Affirmative Action practices, said Engram.
As chairman of the AT&T Black Managers Group, Engram and other group members meet periodically with AT&T Chairman Robert E. Allen to discuss the company's affirmative action policies, the contributions of African Americans at AT&T, and how the company can best manage the resources of its diverse workforce.
When not in his office or travelling to Howard University to present them with an AT&T Foundation grant or to participate in other university functions, Engram lives with his wife, Dianne, in Naperville, IL. They have one son, Kevin, who is following in his fathers footsteps. Kevin is a freshman electrical engineering major at Howard University.
