Bachelors For 1991
Single men from coast to coast seek sensible, sensitive, athletic and sophisticated mates
WOMEN who decry the sad state of affairs in the romance market have reason for hope. This year's crop of eligible bachelors shows that solid men who have what it takes to make exceptional mates do exist.
Enterprising and substantive, these 30 bachelors have a variety of interests, ranging from polo and para-sailing to flying, bicycling and listening to jazz music. A few would rather cook than play basketball. Others delight in reading the financial pages or browsing in antique stores. And then there are the athletic types who enjoy tennis and other sports.
Their occupations are as varied as their interests. Some are salesmen, policemen, educators, engineers and entrepreneurs. Some are insurance executives, dentists, attorneys, physicians and computer experts. Their salaries range from $27,000 to well over $100,000.
Scattered across the country, many of Ebony's 1991 bachelors work and live in the nation's hot spots. New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans and Los Angeles are a few of the cities they call home. Also represented are Wilberforce, Ohio; Jackson, Miss., and Columbia, S.C.
While some of the bachelors live on opposite coasts, they share similar views on what makes a good mate. "Cool, classic and elegant in dress and manner" is how one bachelor sums up his ideal woman. Another one suggests that his dream date is a woman who can "deal with a man as a contemporary." Most of the bachelors would agree with these assessments, but they also say that physical fitness, a sense of humor, and spirituality are equally as important. The bottom line, as a West Coast bachelor puts it, is that the woman "loves me madly."
As their comments indicate, the 1991 bachelors are fun-loving and prefer mates who are up-beat and have a variety of interests. More on their views, attributes and desires follows.
