Choices and Options…

Flower & Garden Magazine, May, 2001 by Jonathan Prebich

This issue finds us right in the middle of spring, heading swiftly toward summer.

With this in mind, I made some personal decisions. One--grow my own vegetables this season. Not being too adept at growing my own in the past and having a `Farmer's Market' close to my home, I never took the time or expended the energy to plant seeds, but now I'm ready. Following the advice given on page 52, Growing Summer Squash and Cucumbers is a Vine Experience, I hope to achieve a successful patch come summer.

Two--travel a bit more. Of course, time is always a main concern, but the warmer weather is a sign for me to get out of hibernation and hit the road to at least one garden spot. This month's Garden Destination, page 22, profiles three decidedly wonderful places to visit. The grounds are lush, the feeling is one of relaxation and the garden-themed activities are endless (if you choose to do more than just rest). If you do plan a trip, keep us posted of your adventures.

Many letters came pouring in praising the rebirth of Garden Builder. In this issue we feature the trellis as our project. If you'd like the perfect addition to create shade or add a unique touch to the garden, the trellis fits the bill. And if you didn't start the Elegant Planter yet (March 2001), now would be a great time to initiate both.

With so much to do and so little time available, be sure to choose your garden chores wisely. Come up with a plan and stick to it. You bet I'll try, and hopefully we'll all have a well-rounded gardening season with time to do and experience all the things we like! See you in the garden ...
