Just in time for the costume preview in this issue comes word of former Dance Magazine editor Tobi Tobias's new book Obsessed by Dress, due out this month from Beacon Press. Tobias, New York Magazine's dance critic, has collected quotations on fashion (and nonfashion) from authorities and personages ranging from RuPaul to Franz Kafka.

The quotes pertaining to dance, not surprisingly, tend to focus on shoes. "Please send me your last pair of shoes, worn out with dancing, as you mentioned in your letter, so that I might have something to press against my heart," wrote Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832).

The book retails for $20.
