EXHIBITIONS AND SHOWINGS
Jan 28, Thirteen/WNET's Great Performances on PBS (10:00 P.M. EST, check your local listings) shows Dance in America's Acts of Ardor: Two Dances by Paul Taylor. The two dances are Black Tuesday and Promethean Fire. Promethean Fire (photo above), a piece about disaster and renewal, was selected as the top dance event in America during 2002 by The New York Times. The production was recorded in performance at the Edinburgh Festival and features Patrick Corbin and Lisa Viola. The Taylor company celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Log on to thirteen.org or pbs.org.
Jan 7, Thirteen/WNET's Great Performances on PBS profiles French Impressionist Edgar Degas in Degas and the Dance. Degas's vast output of paintings, drawings, and sculptures often were devoted to 19th century Paris ballet dancers and dance students. If you missed the exhibit that toured to Detroit and Philadelphia last year, catch up with this film, which is based on that show plus explanations by the curators. It's 8:00 P.M. EST, but check your local listings.
