Loving the skin you're in

Dance Magazine, July, 2004 by Kate Lyndon

Everyone wants clean, beautiful skin, but taking care of your face during the sizzling summer months can be a challenge. Every time you wipe off sweat, you risk clogging pores. Just walking to and from the dance studio, you expose your skin to ultra-violet rays. "Dancers think they aren't outside that much, but in daily activities, our faces see a lot of sun," sayd Dr. Edra Stern, former Atlanta Ballet dancer. "Now that so many moisturizers include sunscreen, it's easy to take that extra step and protect your skin." * "Even in Houston where there's a lot of humidity in the air, I still apply an oil-free SPF 15 moisturizer every morning," says Mireille Hassenboehler, Houston Ballet principla. "Actually, all the products I put on my face are oil-free." Hassenboehler enlisted the help of a dermatologist to develop a daily skin care regimen. "I'll wash two to three times a day, once in the morning, once in the middle of the day--to get rid of the sweat--and once before I go to bed," she says. * We talked to dancers in companies around the country, and here are some of their favorite moisturizers with sun protection, and cleansers for different types of skin.
