TREMAINE DANCE COMPETITION
The 1997 Tremaine Dance Competition National Finals took place at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel in Orlando, Florida, July 7-10. Tremaine Dancers of the Year are, Senior Female: Laurie Irwin from West Side Performing Arts; Senior Male: Tony Peyla from The Dance Shopper Teen Female: Brittany Sonnier from New Iberia Dance & Gymnastics Center; Teen Male: Michael Frankey from West Side Performing Arts; Junior Female: Hayley Meier from Marilyn Schneider School of Dance; Junior Male: Blaine Hoven from Sheffield School of the Dance. Senior Best of Show was awarded to A Dance Studio and Junior Best of Show was given to Dancing Plus. Nancy Pattison won the 15th Anniversary 1997 Teacher of the Year.

Urban Jamm's convention, Summer Jamm '97, took place at the Sportsmen's Lodge Hotel in Studio City, California, July 9-11. Classes were taught by Johnnie Smith, Eddie Garcia, Alex Magno, Cindera Che, Rob Schultz, Wade Robeson, Chris Dupre, Laurie Sposit, Eliana Alexander, David Norwood, Hoang Ho, Ryan Heffington, and Chebar Williams. Winners Talent Showcase National Finals Top Awards 1997 were held in Nashville, Tennessee, July 8-13. Age 13 and over winners are, both High Point Overall Finalist and Solo: "Opus I" from The Dance Center; Duet/Trio: "Take It Back" from D.C. Dance Factory; Small Group: "Deeper Love" from Houstons Dance Studio; Large Group: "Hot Stuff' from D.C. Dance Factory; Production: "God Help the Outcasts" from Cathy's Dance Studio. Age 12 and under winners are, High Point Overall Finalist: "Party Train" from D.C. Dance Factory; Solo: "A Gypsy's Prayer" from Dawn Meyers School; Duet/Trio: "From Now On" from The Dance Center; Small Group: "Go Away" from D.C. Dance Factory; Large Group: "Party Train;" Line: "Can You Feel It" and Production: "Cabin Fever," both from Cathy's Dance Studio.
