Michael Herman, 85, a teacher and authority on folk dance, died in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, on May 10, 1996.

Born in Cleveland, he was the author of the 1947 book Folk Dances for All and with his wife, Mary Jane, was instrumental in making folk dance popular in America. He founded the Folk Dancer Record Company, organized the Michael Herman Folk Dance Orchestra, and taught widely. In 1951 the Hermans established Folk Dance House, a school and center. They also edited the magazine The Folk Dancer.

Camilla de Leon, 80, a dance composer and accompanist for Martha Graham, Pearl Primus, Katherine Dunham, and Pearl Lang, died in Middletown, Connecticut, on April 3, 1996.
