FR. J. BRYAN HEHIR, a Boston archdiocesan priest who chairs the executive committee of the Harvard University Divinity School and is on its faculty, has been chosen to be president and CEO of Catholic Charities USA. Catholic Charities' board of trustees elected Hehir to succeed Jesuit Fr. Fred Kammer, who has been head of the Alexandria-based Catholic Charities since 1992.
Hehir has been on the faculty of Harvard Divinity School since 1993 as a professor of the practice of religion in society. In August 1999, Hehir also was named to lead the divinity school as chairman of its executive committee.
