Norman Finkelstein
National Catholic Reporter, Sept 28, 2007
The battle between professor Norman Finkelstein and DePaul University (See NCR, Sept. 7) ended Sept. 5 as the two sides agreed on a private settlement, cutting short a planned day of protests. Under the agreement, announced jointly by the professor and the university, Finkelstein resigned immediately.
Earlier this year, DePaul denied Finkelstein tenure, saying the political scientist hadn't lived up to the school's "Vincentian values," including respect for the views of others. But supporters thought Finkelstein was being intellectually martyred for his strong criticisms of Israel.
