San Dominico students tread the earth gently; campus is ecological workshop for lower, middle, upper schools

National Catholic Reporter, April 19, 1996 by Sharon Abercrombie

Once seniors had molded the bench into place, the campus community created tiles to decorate the outside. The finished product looks like a happy dragon dressed in a Technicolor coat. Named "Seymour," the cob dragon lives inside the students' garden, surrounded by blossoming apple trees.

If Valpey has her way, future graduates will remember Seymour as an encouraging mascot. Especially when they teach other adults how to transform earth-destroying economic systems into sustainable models that honor all of the planet's sentient beings.
