Teacher's death prompts investigations

National Catholic Reporter, Oct 13, 1995 by John (American tribal leader) Ross

The fiesta of the Virgin's birthday is a major event on Putla's civic and religious calendar. This past Sept. 8 was no exception. Under a blazing sun in the courtyard of the immaculately tiled church, Fr. Jose Garcia Perez stood above a sweltering crowd of women in pastel frocks and men in straw sombreros and told the parable of St.

Peter and Jesus and the nets. "We cast our nets out for justice but nothing returns. We march and protest but we do not find justice in our nets. We do not find clean elections or peace," the priest solemnly intoned. "Still, Jesus tells us not to lose heart, to cast our nets again and again."
