Council reviews accreditation standards - Tip-Off

Parks & Recreation, Oct, 2003

The Council on Accreditation of Park and Recreation Curricula, sponsored in part by NRPA, met at NRPA headquarters in Ashburn Va., to complete an exhaustive, three-day review of the accreditation standards and procedures. Having recently received continued recognition from the Commission on Higher Education Accreditation, the council has undertaken a review of the existing standards to enhance consistency and representation of professional practice. This process will continue with feedback from accredited schools and accreditation visitors.

Currently, 99 schools are accredited, with several more in the process of securing their initial accreditation. Park and recreation professionals are encouraged to become accreditation visitors by attending the training held several times a year. Upcoming dates and locations can be round at the council's Web site, which can be accessed via www.nrpa.org.
