Parks and Recreation Department - Jean H. Fountain retires - Brief Article

Parks & Recreation, Nov, 2001

After 35 years in the parks and recreation field, Jean H. Fountain has retired. She had most recently served as the Parks and Recreation Director of the City if North Miami, where she headed the department for 12 years.

Over the span of her career, Fountain has led departments throughout Florida and Georgia. She has served as the assistant director for the Cocoa Rockledge (FL) County District for Parks and Recreation Department, director of the Gwinnett County (GA) Parks and Recreation Department, and the executive director of the Georgia Parks and Recreation Society.

Fountain was "the consummate parks and recreation professional," with a "superior administrative talent," said former city manager of North Miami Larry Casey.

Having successfully put into action many projects in the City of North Miami, Fountain earned the Golden Key Award and the Mayor's Economic Task Force City Service Award. She was also the first recipient of the Frances C. Cannon Outstanding Alumni Award from Florida State University, after having received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in leisure services there.

"Her leadership will be missed in the department, but as a resident of the city of North Miami she has promised to remain an active citizen, voicing her support for parks and recreation whenever possible," wrote Pam Solomon, recreation supervisor for the City of North Miami Parks and Recreation Department.
