Maryland: Ocean City Coach receives high honors - NRPA in Action - Brief Article

The National Alliance for Youth Sports announced that Jeffrey Wootten, of Berlin, Md., is the recent recipient of the National Youth Coach of the Year Award. Wootten, who coaches youth teams for the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department, was chosen from approximately 150,000 coaches from around the nation.

"Jeffrey Wootten represents the epitome of what a volunteer coach should be," says Fred Engh, founder and president of the Alliance. "He is well-deserving of this award, and we are proud to recognize him for the remarkable impact he has had on the youngsters in his community trough his positive approach that emphasizes fun and skill development."

This past winter, Wootten--who has a wife and three kids--coached girls basketball, boys basketball and co-recreation indoor soccer.

The Alliance has certified more than 1.7 million volunteer coaches through its National Youth Sports Coaches Association program, which is conducted in 2,200 communities across the nation. For more information on the Alliance, see www.nays.org.
