Training programs available for trails
Parks & Recreation, Dec, 2004
The National Trails Training Partnership (NTTP), whose members come from federal and state land management agencies, non-profit outdoor recreation groups and trail contractors and consultants, are promoting the Universal Trail Assessment Process (UTAP) for use by park and recreation agencies. UTAP is an inventory process that provides objective information about trail conditions such as grade, cross slope and width.
This data can be used by land managers to enhance the safety and enjoyment of trail users by providing accurate, objective information about the on-trail conditions; monitor environmental impacts of the trail; prepare budgets; develop maintenance and construction plans, and identify potential access barriers. For more information on UTAP or NTTP, visit www.nttp.net.
