Former NRPA executive director honored - Tip-Off - National Recreation and Park Association - Brief Article
Parks & Recreation, Jan, 2004
On Nov. 21, 2008, dozens of people gathered at the National Recreation and Park Association's headquarters in Ashburn, Va., to honor a man who worked to build NRPNs home the Ahrens National Recreation and Park Association Institute in Loudoun County.
Gen. R. Dean Tice, who served as NRPA's executive director from 1986 to 2001, was honored for Iris commitment to the advancement of recreation, park and conservation efforts that enhance the quality of life for all people.
Many of the more than 100 people who gathered on the grounds had not seen each other since the dedication of the building in 1997. John Thorner, N RPA's new executive director, said the event "was an opportunity for all members of the NRPA family--colleagues, friends and staff--to come together to honor Gen. Tice, whose spirit and boundless energy is infectious. It was also an opportunity for our young staff to hear from Gen. Tice at the headquarters site he helped establish."
Tice cut the red ribbon of the onsite gazebo with the help of NRPA President James Donahue and NRPA Chairman of the Board of Trustees David O. Lose. The gazebo was designed by Porter Corp.--a design, engineering and manufacturing firm located in Holland, Mich.
