Maryland: kids make Fridays a day for fitness

Parks & Recreation, March, 2004

Thank goodness it's Friday! That's what 75 kids thought when they attended the Hearts N' Parks program called "Club Fridays" on Jan. 28 at Fairland Community Center in Maryland.

The participants learned about fitness by participating in a series of events like using resist-a-bands, relays, sprints and parachute games. Also included in the programming was a section on healthy eating, where kids made fruit kabobs or 'Ants on a Log."

Once they completed a fitness or healthy eating station, they got a hole punched in their ticket for that activity. At the end of the night, if they had completed all the activities, the child received a t-shirt and temporary tattoo.

Because of the great success, Hearts N' Parks and Club Fridays will be coining to Community centers near you in the future--get your arm ready for tattooing!
