Northeast Region - Regional Reports - Brief Article

Parks & Recreation, April, 2003

The New England Regional Council participated in a visioning workshop in January led by NRPA President-Elect Jim Donahue and Denise Albert, director of recreation for Portland, Maine. The workshop attempted to align the initiatives of the council with the mission and goals of NRPA as explained in Vision 2010.

All council committee assignments will now be based on the four NRPA goals: public awareness, public policy, citizen and professional development, and body of knowledge. "This refocusing of the regional council should help ensure that the initiatives we undertake on a regional and local level directly relate to the goals of NRPA," says NRPA President Jonathan Korfhage, CPRP.

The Joseph B. Clark Rail-Trail used ISTEA funding to provide linkages between the hamlets of Tappan, Sparkill, Orangeburg, and Blauvelt (N.Y.) with access to the river villages and the Long Path. It was designated as a Community Millennium Trail. In the future, Orangetown will work on developing the trail for use by bicycles.
