Pool raises funds with Rockapella
Parks & Recreation, April, 2004
The Parks and Recreation Department in Mechanicsburg, Penn., has been teaming up with community leaders, professionals, citizens and students to raise money for its new pool. This past January, however, it rocked with a new partnership--the singing group Rockapella!
After working with the Wildcat Foundation (which works to enhance the quality of life for Mechanicsburg students), the city's park and recreation department decided it was time to step up its fund-raising efforts. It enlisted the help of the group Rockapella, who might be known best as the musicians behind the PBS TV show "Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego?"
While rocking the middle school, Rockapella helped the park and orecreation department raise more than $10,000 for the new pool.
Continuing with fund-raising efforts, Mechanicsburg also held an overnighter for the pool where students paid to stay and watch movies, swim, eat and dance all night. The park and recreation department is also teeing up with the Upper Allen Women's Club to hold a golf tournament on June 12, which it hopes will garner another $10,000 toward its cause.
