NRPA Partners with PGA

Parks & Recreation, May, 2004

The National Recreation and Park Association and the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) signed a three-year contract in late March to expand their strategic alliance through programming, visibility, education/training and fostering sustainable practices to increase participation at municipal golf courses nationwide. NRPA members will see several benefits, including improved municipal golf course operations, enhanced public visibility for parks and recreation regarding the core benefits of public investments in municipally operated golf courses, advocacy efforts for municipal course development and operation and increased public participation.

The growth of sports in America will continue to be at the grassroots level. Park and recreation resources are at the crossroads of sports in America, providing facility access, introductory experiences and lifelong play. Facilitating time with family and friends or challenging personal skill development, golf engages individuals in healthy lifestyles and promotes a quality of life that is wholly American. Together, NRPA and the PGA can position municipal golf courses to reach new audience; communicate the benefits of golf participation, and establish new standards of practice for sustaining municipal golf" in the future.
