NRPA promotes diversity at congress - Tip-Off
Parks & Recreation, June, 2003
NRPA is dedicated to increasing the diversity of the parks and recreation profession, and welcoming all people into this wonderful profession. That's why the NRPA Board of Trustees has developed the NRPA Congress Scholarship program. The scholarship provides professionals and citizens who represent an ethnic minority the opportunity to explore the association's operation and its governing bodies at the NRPA National Congress & Exposition, to be held Oct. 21-25 in St. Louis, Mo.
The goal of the scholarship is to encourage attendance by members of ethnic minorities who wouldn't otherwise be able to attend. Participants will meet with NRPA leadership and attend various Congress education sessions and Board of Trustees meetings. A primary focus of the program is to inspire future participation and leadership in NRPA, and to develop contacts with NRPA trustees and other professionals from around the nation.
NRPA will provide up to four complimentary full-package registrations to Congress, which include all educational sessions, the Career Development Center, entrance to the NRPA Exposition and social events. All other expenses are to be paid by the participant or his or her agency. For more information about the scholarship, write to Susan Potts at spotts@ nrpa.org. The deadline for applying is July 15.
