Play with a purpose - Armed Force Recreation Society

Parks & Recreation, June, 2003

Given the complexities of and challenges to families in today's society, maintaining a healthy family requires an increasingly intricate set of skills and abilities. On this premise, F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming has developed play-with-a-purpose programming. Play can provide an opportunity to develop positive skills among all members of the family.

Warren tried SnowFest first. Families were encouraged to enter a cardboard derby race. This was such a successful family event that additional events are in the works. The kickoff is this month, and will include family fun ideas such as a fishing derby (including an education session about fish species), games and a contest for the biggest fish.
