Environmental summer camp

Parks & Recreation, June, 2005

Any high school student interested in pursuing an environmental career can join one of two summer residential camps sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). "Attending students are the future stewards of this state's vast natural resources," says DCNR Secretary Michael DiBerardinis.

"When they leave camp, they will have a sharply honed awareness of the outdoor world and related careers found there." The camps will be offered June 19-25 and July 17-23. Participants will learn conservation and environmental career choices such as stream sampling fish and aquatic life to forestry skills. The camps are free, and attendees will also have the opportunity for future internships, mentoring and job shadowing. For more information, contact Blue Knob State Park in Bedford County at (814) 276-3576.
