Innovative playground designs sought - National Playground Safety Institute
Parks & Recreation, July, 2002
Are you proud of your playground? Let the world know! The Playground Design Awards honor landscape architects, designers and park directors whose playgrounds stand out in four key areas: play value, integrating challenging play events, the play structure's compatibility with the environment, and its accessibility and safety. Winners receive a Playground Design Award trophy and worldwide visibility for their designs. Photography of each winning playground and a summary of the judge's comments on the design will be featured prominently online. The award is sponsored by Landscape Structures in cooperation with the American Society of Landscape Architects.
So far this year, award winners include:
January: Frick Park, Pittsburgh, Pa.;
Designer: Thomas G. Olivo, City of Pittsburgh
February: Shane's Inspiration, Griffith Park, Los Angeles, Calif.; Designer: Jean Schappet, Boundless Playgrounds, Inc. and Shane's Inspiration Design Team
March: Victoria Park, Hong Kong;
Designer: Tony Mui, Hong Kong Architectural Services Division
