The Hearts N' Parks program in Henderson, Nev., was one of the first organizations to receive a $10,000 General Mills Youth Nutrition and Fitness grant, which is given to encourage communities in the U.S. to improve the eating and physical activity patterns of young people, ages 2-20.

Richard Robles retired from his position as recreation superintendent with the City of Henderson (Nev.) Parks and Recreation Department after 20 years of service to Henderson, and 30 years to the parks and recreation profession. Robles has been active in the Nevada Recreation and Parks Society and as a NRPA Pacific Southwest regional representative. He has received many awards over the years, but the two he is most proud of during his tenure in Henderson was the National Gold Medal and NRPA National Accreditation. The Haws Corporation is strengthening its support for plumbing and safety equipment customers by naming Casey Hayes as the company's marketplace out-reach "authority." "Over the years, our desire to work with customers to assure a properly engineered fit and installation of Haws' products in their specific application has become one of the very big differentiators of the Haws brand," says Haws President Sallie Haws. "And now we're making that facet of our operation more readily accessible to the marketplace. Casey Hayes has been our internal 'authority' for some time now, and we're delighted to be able to make his expertise more widely accessible." Haws, an NRPA Corporate Member, is headquartered in Sparks, Nev.

The League of American Bicyclists has designated the first recipients of its Bicycle-Friendly Community awards. Fourteen communities around the U.S. have been recognized.
