Start the party—Recreation and Parks Month is here

Parks & Recreation, July, 2004 by Rachel Roberts

To kick off July as Recreation and Parks month, this issue of the magazine provides readers with the information they need to let communities know that healthy living starts in parks. We hope that you'll take the information about programming innovative tennis leagues for youth (pg. 40) or creating an exercise program for seniors (pg. 50), and turn it around in your town. How about constructing not just any park for dogs, but an extreme dogpark to show your citizens that their pets' health is important too (pg. 44)? Or consider constructing a fitness facility that competes with the private gym around the corner (pg. 59).

All of these articles celebrate how important parks and recreation are to communities, and ways in which you can get your citizens more involved. To add fuel to the fire, we also unveil our last five Sportstowns after a year-long commemoration in every state. Make the most of this month, and make sure everyone knows that parks and recreation are important. We think the celebration is really just beginning.
