State representatives wanted! - Citizen-Board Member Branch

Parks & Recreation, August, 2003

One of the reasons NRPA is unique is that it represents the interests of both parks and recreation professionals and the citizens they serve. Are you a citizen who loves your local parks? Or do you know someone who does? NRPA's Citizen-Board Member branch needs committed individuals to represent citizens' interests in the following states: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island and South Dakota.

State directors on the Citizen-Board Member board learn from other volunteers, share ideas that they can bring back to their own communities and learn about important legislation for funding and program development. The more you learn and network with citizen advocates around the country, the more your community's parks and recreation program will benefit. To get involved, contact the state recreation and park association to be recommended, nominated, appointed or elected (it varies from state to state). You can reach your state association by going to www.nrpa.org and clicking on "Affiliates, State" and scrolling to your state. State directors must become members of NRPA's Citizen-Board Member branch and be willing to attend branch board meetings and serve on committees.
