Adopt-A-Student - American Park and Recreation Society - Brief Article
Parks & Recreation, August, 2003
Who knows more about the park and recreation field than park and recreation professionals? The Adopt-A-Student program was developed by the APRS/Student Branch Joint Committee to match a student in the various disciplines of the parks and recreation field with a professional in the same area of interest. It's a one-year commitment but the benefits last a lot longer.
Students will be able to network with professionals, opening up a dialogue so that the student will be better prepared upon graduation to obtain a position in the field of their choice. (And the professional will know a lot more about what's cooking ill parks and recreation higher education.)
Adopt A-Student information was sent to all NRPA-accredited universities and colleges in April, but because there are many unaccredited programs, we need NRPA members to pass this opportunity to their local schools (or alma maters). For more information, go to www.nrpa.org and click on "Branches," then either "APRS" or "Student Branch." The deadline for applications to the NRPA office is Oct. 1, with additional opportunities to apply at the NRPA National Congress & Exposition in St. Louis in mid-October. At Congress, just go to the Congress Midway in the Exposition Hall. For more information, contact Ron Tillman at 703-858-4731 or rtillman@nrpa.org.
