Board develops goals for coming year - National Society for Park Resources
Parks & Recreation, Sept, 2002
You can get to your appointed destination only if you know where you're going. The National Society for Park Resources board is making sure it gets there and on time. The board has developed an action plan for the coming year with measurable, attainable goals and deadlines.
In anticipation of new NRPA governance directives, the branch plans to update its bylaws; review and expand its continuing education opportunities outside of NRPA's Congress; use technology to expand services; monitor revenue and expenses and create new revenue centers; and expand membership in NSPR. NSPR will also identify best examples of regional recreation planning.
By next June, NSPR leadership will identify three best practices and share these findings with members.
NSPR will also develop stronger advocacy programs to engage NSPR membership and affiliated citizen, community and conservation organizations in issue identification, legislative response, strategic planning and identifying research needs for public lands advocacy, environmental awareness and conservation of park resources. "We hope this will result in the NRPA Public Policy Division, in cooperation with the NSPR branch officers and members, fully supporting park and recreation public policy initiatives, gaining political support for relevant legislation, and informing and engaging citizen partners while utilizing a variety of tools, including e-mail, phone, letter writing, Web-based initiatives and other means to accomplish these ends," says NSPR President Jerry Hover.
In continuing its efforts to support professionals, NSPR will continue to develop Natural Resources Management Coalition, expand partnership activities with the Armed Forces Recreation Society, National Association of Recreation Resource Planners and the National Association of State Park Directors, and continue the NSPR Natural Resources Benefits Training Seminar.
