NOTE: Dash indicates data not available.
Quarterly figures for France, Germany, Italy, and Sweden are
calculated by applying annual adjustment factors to current
published data, and therefore should be viewed as less precise
indicators of unemployment under U.S. concepts than the annual
figures.
There are breaks in series for Germany (2005) and Sweden (2005).
For details on breaks in series, see the technical notes of the
report Comparative Civilian
Labor Force Statistics, Ten Countries, 1960-2005 (Bureau of Labor
Statistics, October 19, 2006), available on the Internet at http:
//www.bls.gov/fls/flscomparelf.htm
For further qualifications and historical annual data, see the
full report, also available at this site.
Monthly and quarterly unemployment rates, updated monthly, are
available on the Internet at ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/special.

(1) Data for 1989 and subsequent years are based on the Standard
Industrial Classification Manual, 1987 Edition. For this reason,
they are not strictly comparable with data for the years 1985-88,
which were based on the Standard Industrial Classification Manual,
1972 Edition, 1977 Supplement.
(2) Beginning with the 1992 survey, the annual survey measures
only nonfatal injuries and illnesses, while past surveys covered
both fatal and nonfatal incidents. To better address fatalities,
a basic element of workplace safety, BLS implemented the Census
of Fatal Occupational Injuries.
(3) The incidence rates represent the number of injuries and
illnesses or lost workdays per 100 full-time workers and were
calculated as (N/EH) X 200,000, where: N = number of injuries
and illnesses or lost workdays; EH = total hours worked by all
employees during the calendar year; and 200,000 = base for 100
full-time equivalent workers (working 40 hours per week, 50 weeks
per year).
(4) Beginning with the 1993 survey, lost workday estimates will
not be generated. As of 1992, BLS began generating percent
distributions and the median number of days away from work
by industry and for groups of workers sustaining similar work
disabilities.
(5) Excludes farms with fewer than 11 employees since 1976.
NOTE: Dash indicates data not available.
