More ICD News: Yet another study shows that omega-3s are good for the heart. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School say that ICD patients who received a daily four-gram dose of omega-3s needed fewer shocks from an implanted device than those assigned to take olive oil supplements.

Extra omega-3s also prolonged the time before an initial shock occurred. People in the treatment group had significantly high levels of EPA and DHA in their red blood cell membranes. All participants were at high risk for fatal ventricular arrhythmias.
