Sing Out! The Folk Song Magazine, Winter, 2006 by Rob Weir
TONY McMANUS and ALAIN GENTY, Singing Sands, (Compass 4413). Acoustic guitarist McManus is known for his subtle, but intricate melodies. Alain Genty plays innovative and aggressive electric fretless bass. Pairing them poses stylistic and artistic challenges, only some of which are overcome. There are times in which Genty's bass simply overpowers all in its path.
But, when he and McManus are on the same page, as on "Marche" or "The Last Dance," magic ensues.
