Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Fla. You've got to love a place where the dugouts don't have tops and the players are as exposed to the elements as the fans, who can reach out and touch them.
Legends Field, Tampa. The ballpark, which has the same field dimensions as Yankee Stadium, is nice enough. But what makes the place special is the proximity to the practice field, where the Yankees warm up before games. You can learn all kinds of stuff by eavesdropping on the New York fans who crowd along the fence hoping to catch the eye of one of their heroes.

Roger Dean Stadium, Jupiter, Fla. Of the four spring sites built for two teams, this is the only one that houses the last two N.L. teams to make the World Series. There is only one day in March when you can't see either the Cardinals or Marlins (or both; they face each other five times) in action.
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Stadium. The Giants' spring home was the first park in Arizona built to resemble a mini-major league stadium. But what sets it apart is the location. It's just off the main drag in old Scottsdale, so there are plenty of hangouts nearby where you'll likely bump into somebody from the baseball world.
Chain Of Lakes Park, Winter Haven, Fla. Tucked away in a sleepy neighborhood miles from the nearest interstate, it can be tricky to find and lacks many of the amenities of the new parks. In other words, it's a simple place where the host Indians and the sun are the main attractions--meaning things are just as they should be in spring training.--S.M.
