Oklahoma State is strong, athletic and can shoot. Adding freshman G JamesOn Curry to the starting lineup gives the Cowboys more scoring, but it also makes them small.... Turnovers and streaky shooting have hurt Kansas, but the Jayhawks struggle most when F Wayne Simien doesn't get enough touches--something opponents have accomplished with zone defenses. Few teams can match Kansas' talent--or NCAA Tournament experience.... By combining junior college transfer Taj Gray with a healthy Kevin Bookout in the frontcourt, Oklahoma has bounced back from a mediocre season. The supporting cast also has stepped up. The Sooners have some nice wins-Connecticut, Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas--but can be hurt by good zone defenses.... Texas Tech is fundamentally sound and runs a crisp motion offense that produces plenty of high-percentage shots. The Red Raiders can put up a lot of points in a hurry, with Gs Ronald Ross and Jarrius Jackson usually leading the way.... In January, Texas lost its best player, G/F P.J. Tucker, because of academics and lost emerging freshman C LaMarcus Aldridge to a season-ending hip injury. PG Daniel Gibson, one of the nation's best freshmen, has grown up quickly. PF Brad Buckman also has stepped up recently, both as a scorer and rebounder.... Iowa State has been incredibly streaky; the Cyclones could be dangerous if they get hot at the right time. ISU is aggressive--and opportunistic--in its matchup zone. Sophomore SG Curtis Stinson is a creative scorer who makes this team go.... In just one season under Billy Gillispie, Texas A&M has gone from being an embarrassment (0-16 in Big 12 play last season) to being respectable. SF Antoine Wright is one of the league's best all-around players. The Aggies' poor nonconference schedule makes getting an at-large bid a long shot.
