'For years, Bud Selig kept his head in the sand and did not address the steroid issue. It is a shame that Congress has to step in and try to clean up his mess.--Frederick Kranz, ,Spring Hill, Fla.
* Brian Cashman states that he doesn't know why the Red Sox have been sniping at Alex Rodriguez and the "understated" Yankees (TSN, March 18). Maybe Mr. Cashman has forgotten the comments A-Rod and others keep making about the Red Sox. It could be that memory loss is one of the side effects of suffering the worst choke in professional sports history.--Rick Ferry, Agawam, Mass.

* Debating whether Million Dollar Baby is a boxing movie or a love story (TSN, March 18) is like asking whether Dave Kindred is a sportswriter or a movie critic. The bottom line: Was the end result good? Clint Eastwood: two thumbs up. Dave: Don't hold your breath for an Oscar ballot.--Mike Tye, Concord, N.C.
* Dave Kindred totally missed the point of Million Dollar Baby. And where does he get off giving away the ending? If I didn't know better, I would think Kindred doesn't like women participating in sports and fulfilling their hopes and dreams.--Brian Michalak, Toledo, Ohio
* I want to thank Tricia Garner for her article on Hoop Dreams (TSN, March 18). Jake's mother, Rachel, is my best friend. When I read what Tricia wrote about Jake, it made me cry because she really saw him and what a special little boy he is. He is our miracle boy, and she really showed that in just a few lines.--Ann-Marie Berti, Greenville, S.C.
