Your turn

Sporting News, The, May 17, 2004 by Lee DeCicco, Jim Weidner, Richard Wood, Alan Wilson, Gabriel Rossman

* Todd Jones' column about why he is pitching one more year (TSN, May 3) was very touching. A handful of professional athletes get bad publicity, and we tend to forget that they represent a percentage. Then we get to read Mr. Jones' article, and it brings a ray of sunshine into the world.

Lee DeCicco, Fort Dodge, Iowa

* I want to thank Dave McGinnis for letting us know a little bit more about Pat Tillman (TSN, May 3). I have the utmost respect for Tillman. The way he handled himself makes me proud to be an American. Pat Tillman is a hero, but most of all, he was a great human being. Thank you, SPORTING NEWS, for that article.

Jim Weidner, Rochester, Minn.

* For the first time, I was very disappointed with the SPORTING NEWS. You decided not to place Pat Tillman on the cover of your May 3 issue--not even in an insert picture. Instead, you decided to highlight the "Winners and Losers" of the NFL draft. They should have been called the "Whiners and Losers."

Richard Wood, Tucson, Ariz.

* I love the SPORTING NEWS. However, your grades for the NFL draft were way too easy. You're not the public schools! The Packers, Saints and Seahawks deserved D's. The Cowboys should have gotten an F. The one team I thought you were too tough on was the Browns--they should have received a B.

Alan Wilson, Fredonia, Wis.

* With the Pacers one of the front-runners to go to the NBA Finals, you have to ask: When will Reggie Miller get some respect? At 38, Miller still hits 40 percent of his 3-pointers. Although he no longer scores 30 points in a game, he is capable of scoring 15 to 20 when the Pacers need him. He is the best pure shooter ever.

Gabriel Rossman, Great Barrington, Mass.
