Bats should crack, not skulls

Sporting News, The, June 24, 2002 by Armen Keteyian

Now that's comforting. The man responsible for certifying the safety of aluminum bats used by millions has "no public position."

Well, here's a position: I would not want to be standing where Birk, Reyes or any other pitcher is today. Not with laser beams, dead on a line, screaming their way to center field.

Armen Keteyian is a correspondent for HBO's Real Sports. See his report on the dangers of aluminum bats on Real Sports, beginning June 25 at 10 p.m. ET. Real Sports commentators will write columns periodically for THE SPORTING NEWS.
