Holy good racing, Batman!

Sporting News, The,  June 24, 2005  by Matt Crossman

Four things you need to know about Sunday's Barman Begins 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

1. Greg Biffle will win. He won the August race at Michigan last year, he has led the most laps by far this year, and he won in February at California, a track similar to Michigan. Plus, Biffle and crew chief Doug Richert have done the best job of adapting to the new spoiler and tire rules.

2. This is the first Cup race with a movie as the title sponsor. It could be worse. It could be The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 400.

3. The track does not have the reputation of Bristol or Daytona, but it is popular with drivers. The thing about Michigan is there is no thing. It's not a short track, and it's not a restrictor-plate track, and it doesn't have any screwy turns or a tire-shredding surface. It's a banked 2-mile track that simply allows for multigroove, fast, wide-open racing.

4. The seemingly endless run of caution flags that have plagued this season will take a week off. Because the track is so big and smooth, there aren't many crashes. It there's one criticism of races at Michigan, it's that they are boring, with long green runs. NASCAR would take that right about now.
