.299 The Orioles' batting average in innings 1-6. Opponents are hitting .249 in that same period, which means the Orioles are building sizable early leads.

15 Saves by Indians RHP Bob Wickman entering the week--two more than his total in 2004, when he missed a significant amount of time recovering from elbow surgery. With Wickman anchoring the back end, Cleveland's bullpen is among the best in baseball.

9 Blown saves by Royals relievers in their first 19 chances. K.C.'s bullpen features a number of young hard throwers--RHPs Ambiorix Burgos, Leo Nunez and Mike MacDougal and LHPs Andrew Sisco and Jeremy Affeldt. If they get some leads, the success rate could improve dramatically.

5 Home runs by Phillies 1B Jim Thome entering the week. He sat out two weeks with a back problem, but five homers is unacceptable for a slugger who averaged 47 from 2001 to 2004. The Phillies are winning despite his lack of production, but at some point they will need him.

5 Starting pitchers used by the Rangers through the end of last week. RHP Juan Dominguez became No. 6 on Sunday, several days after the team designated RHP Ryan Drese for assignment. In 2004, Texas had used six starters by its 13th game.

7 Walks allowed by Twins RHPs Brad Radke and Carlos Silva combined. The two have taken control pitching to another level. Entering the week, Radke had walked just three batters in 87 innings; Silva, four in 80 innings.

.208 The Astros' road batting average, the worst in the majors. Conversely, Houston was batting .281 at home at the start of the week, seventh in the big leagues.

26 The difference between Brewers LF Carlos Lee's RBIs (55) and 1B Lyle Overbay's (29) entering the week. That was the biggest gap in the majors between a team's top two R81 producers. The offense is relying too much on Lee.
