HOPEFUL HOYAS There's a long list of former Georgetown players in the NBA, including Patrick Ewingg, Othella Harrington, Allen Iverson, Jaren Jackson, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Don Reid, Jahidi White, Jerome Williams and David Wingate--but none has won a championship. That will change this year.
With Ewing and Wingate of the Knicks matching up against Jackson of the Spurs, someone will win it. Wingate and Ewing, barring a Willis Reed-like miracle, are spending the series on the bench with injuries. The closet these former Hoyas have made it to the title:
Player
Harrington Played 15 minutes in '97 playoffs as Houston lost to
Utah in Western Conference finals.
Iverson Led Sixers to first-round upset of Magic before falling
to Indiana this season.
Mourning Lost to Jordan-led Bulls in '97 Eastern Conference
finals
Mutombo With Denver in '94, swatted top-seeded Seattle before
falling to Utah in seven in Western semis. With Atlanta
in '99, lost to Knicks in four in Eastern semis.
Reid Taken out by Atlanta in five games with Pistons this
season.
Williams Helped Detroit to its two playoff victories this year.
White Rookie Wizard is watching playoffs from home.
