Raised more than $80,000 for charities in his native Puerto Rico last year with a home run derby. His foundation helps support children's organizations in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

JOHN FRANCO, P, Mets

Holds an annual celebrity Bowl for Babies function to benefit the March of Dimes and has raised more than $1.2 million for that group. Has played Santa Claus at the Mets' annual holiday party for the last 13 years.

RUSTY GREER, OF, Rangers

His donations of nearly $250,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth, Texas, have led to improvements, including a new playground, and he now is chairing a drive to increase the number of rooms. Gave $100,000 toward building a youth field in Frisco, Texas.

BOBBY HIGGINSON, OF, Tigers Supports charities both in Detroit and Philadelphia, including giving scholarships to students from his old boys club. His various fund raisers have led to contributions exceeding $200,000 to groups tending to sick kids.

AL LEITER, P, Mets

His extensive community work includes donating $200,000 and overseeing the building of a children's playground at a New York City hospital. Subsidized a before- and after-school program in his hometown of Berkeley Township, N.J., and constructed a basketball complex in Manitou Park, N.J.

JAMIE MOYER, P, Mariners

Contributes to more than 25 community organizations. Is host for an annual bowling tournament for organ donation awareness (raised $250,000 in 2002) and raised more than $100,000 to establish Camp Erin, a weeklong camp for kids who have lost a loved one.

MIKE MUSSINA, P, Yankees

Funds 12 college scholarships, renewable annually. If students reach a specific grade-point average at graduation, they are eligible for a donation to help pay off student loans. Funds a basketball program in his hometown of Montoursville, Pa.

ALEX RODRIGUEZ, SS, Rangers

Helping to build the Alex Rodriguez Learning Center at a Boys & Girls Club in Miami, which has received more than $2 million from him. Gave $2.9 million last October to fund an annual scholarship at the University of Miami for Boys & Girls Club members.

CURT SCHILLING, P, Diamondbacks

Offers amazing support for the ALS Foundation in Philadelphia and Arizona. Raised $1.5 million for the ALS Philadelphia chapter and another $1 million for the Arizona branch in addition to donating $500,000.

JOHN SMOLTZ, P, Braves

His annual golf tournament for a children's health care unit brought in $234,000 last year. Is a board member and founder of Kings Ridge Christian School in suburban Atlanta, for which he has helped raise more than $3 million.

MIKE SWEENEY, 1B, Royals

One of the sport's nice guys who constantly is working in the community, giving talks on his faith, raising money for Athletes in Action--$200,000 so far--and making unscheduled hospital and charitable appearances.
