Your turn

Sporting News, The,  July 15, 2005  by John Chadwick,  Ed Moorhouse,  Jason Thomas,  James Newton,  Mike Ching

'Thank you for the invitation to stay away, Jeremy Roenick. I believe I will. When an entire league stops playing and its "stars" insult the fans, why would anyone bother to watch?--John Chadwick, Union City, Calif.'--John Chadwick, Union City, Calif.

* In response to Dave Kindred's column (TSN, July 1): I am 24 years old, and I appreciate the impact that heroes like Jackie Robinson had on sports and American society. However, I was not born 5 minutes ago, and I have read plenty of books. To continue to dominate a sport as Lance Armstrong has, even after beating cancer, is admirable and inspirational. If Kindred can pass off what Armstrong does as simply "riding a bike around France," then maybe Kindred should try it. Or pick up a book.--Ed Moorhouse, Riverton, N.J.

* Todd Jones is a hypocrite. After writing many articles in your publication about emphasizing fundamentals and etiquette with kids, he advocates cheating and having a "good time with it" (TSN, July 1). Nice role model.--Jason Thomas, Lafayette, La.

* At a time when baseball's image is suffering mightily because of cheating, I am amazed Jones would be so dim as to write such a thing. Moreover, I'm stunned that the SPORTING NEWS would be so thoughtless as to give that idea its imprimatur.--James Newton, Arlington, Va.

* Yes, the Spurs are NBA champions, but if they want to create a true dynasty, they need to upgrade at point guard. Tony Parker's failings became all too apparent in the playoffs--boatloads of turnovers, airballs at crucial times, an inability to create scoring opportunities for others and a total lack of defensive presence.--Mike Ching, San Francisco
