Go to summer camp: as in training camp, NFL-style. Football. You. Now!
Sporting News, The, July 21, 2006
About half the NFL's teams do the training camp thing at home nowadays, which leaves ... a whole lot of teams out there that still go away and invite their rabid, fun-loving fans to head on down the highways after them. The glass is half-full (with a couple of exceptions, but more on that in a minute)--so why not top it off at some small-town tavern where you just might get to clink mugs with a couple of barstool-bending behemoths?
Go to training camp--at home or away--for the kind of up-close view of your team you simply can't get during the season; you'll be amazed at how much you will learn. Go to rub elbows with folks just like you--who love their team and aren't ashamed to burn some vacation days getting their football freak on. Go to watch the real national pastime in the sun, make a few friends, chat up players, get their autographs, eat where they eat, drink where they drink, and, ya know, be merry.

And while you're at it, don't forget to give thanks you're not a Lions or Raiders fan. Those soulless teams operate closed camps. Say it with us: Booooo!
