5 cracks at a winner

Sporting News, The,  July 21, 2006

1 Tiger Woods. It has been a while since Tiger has had his "A" game, but the doglegs at Hoylake will give him enough room to keep the ball in play. If his putter cooperates, look out.

2 Geoff Ogilvy. The course is made to order for a straight hitter with a competent short game. Ogilvy tied for fifth last year at St. Andrews and showed he could handle even a tough course in winning the U.S. Open last month at Winged Foot.

3 Luke Donald. It's time for the talented Donald to win a major. Where better than in his own country? Donald isn't a bomber off the tee, but he hits it straight.

4 Colin Montgomerie. Second at St. Andrews and tied for second in the U.S. Open, Monty could capture his first major on a course that clearly suits his game. He can keep the ball low in the wind, and his iron shots define precision.

5 Vijay Singh. He has been close in the British, and this could be the year he claims the third leg of the career Grand Slam. Fearless with the driver, Singh is a good bet to post four rounds in the 60s.
