Pit box: who will win at New Hampshire and Pocono?
Sporting News, The, July 21, 2006
Fantasy experts Vinnie lyer and Roger Kuznia pick Nextel Cup winners. Follow their running feud at sportingnews.com/nascar/pitbox.
Vinnie: I love it when we renew the Hardware Bowl rivalry, Roger. Prepare for a Lowe's blow in New England when points leader Jimmie Johnson breezes past Tony Stewart; both have two wins at the track, but Johnson has done it in six fewer starts. At Pocono, it'll be Kurt Busch, who finished second to Denny Hamlin in the June race there. Busch won't be deterred by Greg Biffle--or Biff's wacky significant other.
Sleeper picks: Jeff Burton (New Hampshire), Mark Martin (Pocono). Not so fast: Scott Riggs (New Hampshire), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Pocono).

Roger: Vinnie, my selection of Stewart to win the New England 300 is as easy as 1-2--as in Stewart's finishes in 2005 at New Hampshire. This is one weekend on which Home Depot comes out on top. And I'll wager that Biffle takes the checkered flag in the Pennsylvania 500. He is convinced that if he had not had a brake problem he would have finished second instead of sixth last month at Pocono.
Sleeper picks: Denny Hamlin (New Hampshire), Carl Edwards (Pocono). Not so fast: Elliott Sadler (New Hampshire), Jamie McMurray (Pocono).
Nextel Cup points (based on how the experts' choices finished): Roger 1,370; Vinnie 1,316.
