1 The NFL playoffs. If your team has a first-round bye, it's the next-best thing to a guaranteed victory, the postseason version of playing the 49ers in the regular season.

2 Conference play. Will things get more intense in college hoops? That's a foregone conclusion. Or, same as when Dick Vitale's doing the color: It's a mute point.

3 The BCS. Yes, it's facing another round of tweaks, but work already has begun. The formula committee is studying some combination of "I'm thinking of a number" and "Rock, Paper, Scissors."

4 The Suns. Unbelievable start. In fact, turns out Steve Nash is such a good passer that he just moved ahead of Josh McCown on the Cardinals' offseason depth chart.
